Taco Bell Is Charging Extra For This Sauce Packet
Some people like to stash away sauces from different fast-food restaurants (including Taco Bell) in their kitchen drawers. This is especially true if you end up with more sauce packets than you can handle in one order. Sometimes they just like to load you up with mild and spicy sauces free of charge. Well, this may be changing with one of their sauces. The free part.
AllRecipes reported that Taco Bell is updating its line of sauces and they’re also changing one of the prices.
Taco Bell Sauce Packet
The fast-food chain debuted its new Avocado Salsa Verde on March 21 as part of the new cantina menu. “The all-new Avocado Verde Salsa, which features tomatillos, green chili peppers, and real avocado pulp was developed to complement Cantina Chicken menu items,” the Tex-Mex chain announced in a news release. The cantina chicken menu includes options like the cantina chicken soft taco, cantina chicken crispy taco, cantina chicken burrito, cantina chicken quesadilla, and cantina chicken bowl.
According to Taco Bell, “One packet of avocado verde salsa comes with every order of the cantina chicken menu.” But if you want more than one packet, or to add the new sauce to a different meal, you’ll be charged 20 cents per packet.
What Makes This Sauce So Special?
Unlike the typical fast-food sauces many are used to, this particular one is almost double in size. According to the Avocado Verde Salsa packet, it weighs 0.5 ounces, and it’s “best chilled, shaken, sauced.” A single-serve packet of Heinz ketchup is 0.3 ounces.
The chain mentioned that the new sauce is considered a “premium” sauce and menu add-on. Similar to its nacho cheese sauce, reduced fat sour cream and guacamole.
Reactions
Someone recently took to Reddit to share the news saying, “Charging for sauce packets?!?… What is Taco Bell executive smoking?” Many people chimed in with their thoughts. One person said, “I’ve already got a huge stash in my car so I’m set for a long time.” Another person responded to the initial poster’s question with “Smoking that inflation pack.”
Meanwhile, other people are quite excited about the new sauce. Some people shared their excitement on the Sanckolator’s Instagram. “Ohhh yasss! Can’t wait for all new Taco Bell goodies, esp this!” Another person urged the chain to bring the sauce to big box stores. They said, “Just drop it at Walmart so I don’t have to play these games with the store/DoorDash drivers on missing sauces.” Someone else said, “Why do that when you can get a jar of that at the store?”
