5 Must-Play Songs For Your St. Paddy’s Day Playlist

There’s something special about St. Patrick’s Day. It brings everyone together to celebrate the Irish. Something we can certainly appreciate around here at Dave & Chuck “The Freak.”

However, it’s not a real St. Paddy’s Day party unless you have Irish music playing. There’s nothing like those folk songs on the 17th of March. They can transport you and make you feel like you’re across the pond in Ireland. It’s not every day that we get to listen to these songs. In fact, you probably wouldn’t want to listen to these every day. They wouldn’t make as much sense, or have the same feel. These songs are just perfect on St. Patrick’s Day.

No matter what type of music you’re looking for, there’s an appropriate Irish song to go along with it. There’s folk, rock, and country. Actually, much of our bluegrass and country music draws inspiration from Irish folk music. You’ll be able to hear the similarities.

I’ve tried to pick from a wide variety of Irish (or Irish-themed) songs for St. Patrick’s Day. Some will be great for waking you up and getting that second wind. Others will be more appropriate for your night cap. It’s a long day! You’re going to need songs for every situation and mood. Check out the list below and add them to your St. Patrick’s Day playlist!

5 Must-Play Songs On St. Paddy’s Day

  • Galway Girl

There are several covers and options for you to choose from with Galway Girl. Honestly, you can’t go wrong. I prefer the folk versions. It makes you feel like you’re in an Irish pub listening to a live singer. Such an amazing feel. This song has the potential to never get old. It’s a St. Paddy’s Day must-play. On repeat, probably.

  • I'm Shipping Off To Boston

This is probably one of the most common songs to play on St. Patrick’s Day in the States. When I was in college, my roommates blared this every year to wake us up brutally early in the morning. However, the song rocks and will wake you up. It’s fun and it’s totally St. Paddy’s Day. A St. Paddy’s Day Playlist isn’t complete without some Dropkick Murphys.

  • The Parting Glass

Yes, this song is a little slower. However, play it at the end of a long day/night surrounded by your closest friends and loved ones. Then, you’ll understand. It’s a beautiful song. The first time I heard it, we were locked in an Irish Pub after-hours and some locals played it. It was an incredible experience. I highly recommend you get locked in an Irish Pub sometime. One of the best nights ever. There are several versions and covers out there, you can’t go wrong. Hozier’s rendition is one of my favorites of all-time.

  • Molly Malone

You’ve probably heard Dave sing this a handful of times. Can’t blame him! It’s insanely catchy…and about a woman with large breasts. How St. Paddy’s Day is that? It’s definitely a must play. If this isn’t already on your St. Paddy’s Day playlist, it should be! Still time to change that.

  • Irish Pub Song

This is catchy, funny, and completely Irish. It’s the perfect St. Paddy’s Day song for your playlist. It delivers the feel of St. Paddy’s Day perfectly. Really makes you want to find the closest Irish Pub and enjoy a pint of the black. Cheers!
