Fun and Unique Things to Do in Delaware
Visit Delaware State Parks
Did you know that Delaware has 17 state parks? The travel experts at VisitDelaware.com suggest visiting one of the many Delaware state parks out there. “Enjoy the beaches of Cape Henlopen State Park, kayak through Trap Pond State Park, camp at Killen’s Pond State Park or hike Brandywine Creek State Park for fresh air, scenic views and plenty of activities for the whole family,” they suggest. I absolutely love visiting state parks, especially on a sunny summer day. It’s one of the best things to do in Delaware.
Visit the Trails of Discovery
If you’re looking for a really interesting activity, check out the Trails of Discovery. These trails will take you throughout the beautiful state, whether it’s visiting Delaware’s great breweries, wineries, historical sites and more. All you have to do is sign up to access the trails on your mobile device and get going.
Visit the Winterthur in Wilmington
If you’ve never experienced the Winterthur, now is your chance. The Winterthur is the premier museum of American decorative arts, according to their website, featuring almost 90,000 objects made or used in America since 1640. “The collection is displayed in the magnificent 175-room house, much as it was when the family of founder Henry Francis du Pont called it home,” they state. Also, as AtlasObscura.com explains, “A palatial private home, now open as a museum, stands among sprawling grounds covered with enchanting woodlands and manicured gardens.” They add, “Step inside the grand manor, and you’ll find an almost overwhelming assortment of artistic and antique treasures.” I love the history of the Winterthur.
Visit the Delaware Art Museum
The Delaware Art Museum has so many fun things to do any season. They always have unique exhibitions, such as the Jazz Age Illustration, which is “the first major exhibition to survey the art of popular illustration in the United States between 1919 and 1942.” That exhibition kicks off in October and runs through early 2025. Aside from the exhibitions and collections, the Delaware Art Museum gives art workshops and multi-week courses in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, metalsmithing, ceramics, writing and more. These classes are for adults and children. I’m a painter, so I know first-hand that learning with friends and experts can be a great thing. It’s one of the most fun and educational things to do in Delaware.
