Georgia Crab Shack Recognized As Best Seafood In The State
Seafood is great all year round, especially along the coast. But it somehow tastes even better during the summer. It simply pairs well with eating outside, summer cocktails, and sunshine. The Food Network detailed the best seafood restaurants in Georgia, and they named an infamous crab shack as the best.
Located at 40 Estill Hammock Rd, in Tybee Island, you will find The Crab Shack. “Set underneath a thick canopy of Spanish moss-covered live oaks overlooking the marsh of Chimney Creek, this former fish camp feels like a mix of tiki bar and pirate’s den,” Food Network states. They call it a camp because you can actually stay there.
There’s actually an AirBnB called the Purple Haze on the grounds that is two-bedroom and six-person house. Then, there’s a second house called Number 33. This is a larger space that accommodates up to 10 guests. This destination history dates back to 1983 when the area was a fishing camp.
The Crab Shack Has An Extensive Georgia Seafood Menu
“The first menu was drawn on a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood and hung on a wall where it could be seen from all 6 tables,” the Crab Shack explains regarding its history. Now, you would need many sheets of plywood to detail all the options you can order. In fact, crab and specialties are only part of the offering.
“Shacketizers” is the first section you will see across the top. This is where you will find mussels, oysters, shrimp and crab dip. It’s also where you will find the seafood nachos.
A shack crab stew and clam chowder are fan favorites, obviously served boiling hot. Speaking of boiled, you can order shrimp by the pound, half pound, or quarter pound. This, too, is boiled and served in a peel-and-eat style.
Of course, the crab items take center stage. There are nine options here to choose from. If you can’t decide then the samples, platters, and half and half options might be your way to go. If you prefer handhelds, a deviled crab sandwich is something also cooked up here.
The Crab Shack’s cooking style is “all boiled in the traditional low-country style with a secret seasoning blend.”
If Tybee Island is in your travel plans this spring or summer, you’ll want to have the Crab Shack on your radar for some of the most delicious seafood in the state. Furthermore, you can make an entire experience out of your time at the Crab Shack.
