Detroit: Here Was Our Most Popular Football Beverage This Season
At the end of a long and memorable NFL season, we tend to reflect upon the highs and lows of what our favorite team accomplished (or didn’t) this year. Restaurant management software company Toast recently published detailed information on the food and drink highlights for the 2023 NFL season. In Detroit, the alcohol beverage of choice that Lions fans grabbed for most during football games was hard seltzer. This is very much in line with the overall trends, analyzing drinks paired with watching sports.
For example, Mashed broke down alcohol’s popularity with football fans even further. Ahead of the big game, they specifically detailed which alcohol got the overall biggest boost for NFL Sundays. The answer was that hard seltzer saw the biggest increase by far. Mashed said, “Hard seltzer was the most popular drink to sip on during a game; the beverage saw a whopping 47% increase in consumption on football Sundays compared to Sundays during the rest of the year.”
Detroit Football Fans Often Ordered Hard Selzer As Their Beverage Choice
Hard Seltzer popularity was up an astounding 63% in Detroit this NFL season as the top beverage of choice. Rum was the second most ordered. Lager then rounds out the top three alcoholic drinks of choice to accompany NFL games for Detroit football fans this season.
In addition, Toast detailed similar information on the food choices. Detroit football viewers seemed to prefer a full meal as opposed to light appetizers. Per Toast data, burrito orders increased 114%. As a result, this was the top food item.
In order to compile this information, Toast studied data through their point-of-sale software system. Specifically, they analyzed the order differences per item on NFL Sundays through mid-December. The restaurant industry as a whole saw alcohol orders up 6% this football season.
The upcoming Super Bowl is obviously another major impactful day when it comes to the food and beverage industry. It’s fair to say your food and drink choices to accompany your game festivities are crucial decisions. The joy of not having your team in the Super Bowl is that Detroit fans can order a their favorite burrito, crack a can of hard seltzer, and just enjoy the game.
Best Moments from the Michigan vs. Washington Championship Game
I wonder if my University of Michigan friends got any sleep last night. It’s got to be thrilling to see their team win a National Championship for the first time in decades plus have the Detroit Lions in the playoffs. Sure, I’m a little jelly, since I’m a Michigan State Spartan. But, I’m happy for my Wolverine friends and family. You guys played a great season and game against Washington. Let’s relive the magic with some of the best moments from the Michigan vs. Washington National Championship game.
While the Washington Huskies played their hears out, this game became lopsided at the end, with the Wolverines being victorious, 34-13. The first half of the game was much more even. I wasn’t even sure what was going to win going into the half. But, the final quarter really showed the strength of this Michigan team. Congratulations to Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines. They’re are the 2024 National Championship winners.
The 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship took place on Monday (Jan. 8), and it made for a late night. These are the days when I miss coffee. The game had No. 1 Michigan going up against No. 2 Washington at NRG Stadium in Houston. Michigan’s win marked their first national title since back in 1997. As for Washington, if they had won this game, it would have marked their first national title since 1991. Michigan got to the National Championship thanks to a close 27-20 overtime win over No. 4 Alabama in the Rose Bowl semifinal. Washington got to this national title game following a 37-31 win over No. 3 Texas in the Sugar Bowl.
Now that’s we’ve gone through the numbers, let’s get into some of the best moments from this game. This showing is something Wolverine fans are going to want to savor for a long time. I don’t blame them. Maybe with Michigan State’s new head coach, we’ll get some moments like this coming up.
