WATCH: Massive Waves Hit Marshall Islands Army Base
It’s like something straight out of a movie. I feel like I’ve seen this play out in “Jumanji.” Watch as massive waves hit a Marshall Islands Army Base.
The whole thing was captured on video, and it’s nothing short of wild. Video shows the moment it all started happening.
Massive Waves Hit Marshall Islands Army Base
Watch as a 3 to 4 foot wave knocks down doors and goes inside the Army’s dining hall in Roi-Namur. That’s an island at the northern end of Kwajalein Atoll. It was so powerful it knocked people off of their feet and swept them away.
In the video, you can see people holding onto whatever they can in order to remain in place. These are some strong waves!
According to TMZ, no one was seriously injured during the incident. In a statement, the U.S. Army said, “a series of weather-induced waves hit Roi-Namur which caused significant flooding in the northern portions of the island.”
According to TMZ, all non-mission personnel were evacuated from the island. The two airports in the area are expected to be closed for weeks due to the damage.
What Caused These Big Waves?
Good question! It’s believed a combination of wind, tides, and swell direction from an off-shore storm are what caused these waves to reach that size, per TMZ.
Check out some of the videos from the storm below! It’s a crazy scene. My anxiety is soaring just watching the videos. Remember: nobody was seriously hurt or killed in this storm there, according to TMZ.
That’s a lot of damage! I’m not sure if an area like the Marshall Islands has the means and resources to clean up the whole thing and get everything back to normal. Hopefully, they are able to.
Check out some of the videos below! Hoping for the best for everyone involved!
