New Jersey: New Laws To Be Aware Of For 2024
We are a few short weeks away from turning the calendar to a new year. This means that there are a few new laws to know about for 2024.
As an overview, here are a few essential topics with new laws to be aware of as we turn the calendar to 2024. In fact, some of them take hold starting immediately in January. Though the subject of new rules can often have a negative connotation, many of these will have a positive impact for residents of the Garden State. Let’s start with everyone’s favorite category, money.
Tax + Minimum Wage
As we head into the first quarter, we also face the kickoff of tax season. Back in June, the state announced that “Governor Phil Murphy signed the Fiscal Year 2024 Appropriations Act into Law on Friday, building on the historic progress made over the last five years with new investments centered around increasing affordability, promoting fiscal responsibility, and creating world-class opportunities for everyone to succeed.” This provides new and improved levels of tax for properties and school funding.
Fox29 broke it down further explaining, “New Jersey’s Child Tax Credit program will also increase, now providing up to $1,000 per child under age 6 for families earning under $30,000.”

Next, we will see the state minimum wage increase to $15.13. For most employers this will be an increase of one dollar for 2024.
Birth Control Access
Governor Murphy also recently approved certain forms of birth control to be accessible without the need for a doctor’s prescription. Particular contraception will be available over the counter at many pharmacies. Furthermore, this will be under a “no residency” policy where you do not have to be a New Jersey resident to purchase the birth control.
In addition to the new laws for New Jersey in 2024, the state details that the economy, environment, education, and healthcare remain as key initiatives under Governor Murphy.
