Riley Green And Jelly Roll Team For A ‘Fun’ One
Riley Green has a fun collaboration with his friend Jelly Roll on his new album Ain’t My Last Rodeo, and he told me all about getting country music’s “it” guy to do it.
Riley said, “I wrote the song ‘Copenhagen and a Cadilac.’ It was just a fun title and a fun song, kind of light-hearted. I really wasn’t planning on cutting it for this record, and then I did a show with Jelly Roll somewhere, and I thought of him when I came across that song, so I texted it to him, and he called me immediately and loved the song and wanted to be a part of it.”
He added, “It worked out great, and I think it’s a collaboration that I think probably people aren’t expecting, so I’m excited about people hearing that.”
Green said of his good buddy and duet partner, “It’s hard not to like Jelly Roll; he’s having such a great moment now, too. His story is very unique, and he’s not afraid to tell it, which I think a lot of fans are drawn to.”
Riley recently announced a headlining tour that will kick off in February with openers that include 1990s hitmaker Tracy Lawrence and newcomer Ella Langley.
Green told us about his life on the road and his high-energy show. Green attracts many young fans to his shows and even brings one on stage now and then to sing a song with him. He told us, “Man, I just think about it from a fan’s standpoint. You know, these kids that come to my shows, I am always good at spotting ones that I think are not gonna get too shy when they get on stage.”
He added, “These kids are just like screaming every word right there on the front row, and I think about what they had to put up with to be having that spot. They may have been there all day, and it may be their first concert; it makes for cool moments, and maybe one of these kids will get inspired to pick a guitar up or something and write country music. It’s what is fun about playing live shows and certainly having generations out there coming to these shows as well.”
