Spike Lee To Direct A Documentary On Colin Kaepernick
Spike Lee will direct a multipart documentary based on Colin Kaepernick.
The documentary will allow the activist and former NFL quarterback to “tell his story from his perspective” the press release states in part per The Huffington Post.
“Kaepernick, who has never given a full, first-person account of his journey, is collaborating closely with Lee who plans to use extensive new interviews and a vast never-before-seen archive,” the announcement read.
ESPN announced the documentary as part of Kaepernick’s first-look deal with Disney, which owns the majority in ESPN, back in 2020. Spike was brought on the project thereafter.
Jemele Hill, a contributing writer for The Atlantic who formerly worked for ESPN, will serve as a producer on the project.
ESPN has yet to announce the documentary’s premiere date.
