Maren Morris On CMA’s Female Vocalist: ‘Kacey Has Had A Huge Year’
Maren Morris took home the coveted CMA award last night (11/13) for Album of the Year for her project Girl.
Backstage after the win, the mother-to be was asked about the Female Vocalist honor which was given to Kacey Musgraves and how 2019 should have been her year.
Maren responded, “I walked away with the award that I really wanted and Kacey has had a huge year.”
She added, “I feel like as they should probably call it Female Artist of the year because I think it’s not about who’s the best singer, it’s about who’s just had the biggest year. And I think all of these women in this category have their own way.”
On getting the Album award she said, “I’m just I’m so excited and I’m kind of blacked out during my speech on stage but I definitely wanted to make sure that, you know, I guess respect was paid to Busbee (her former producer that passed away this year) and we’ve been nominated for this before a couple of years ago with my album Hero. And we didn’t win that year, but we just had the best time kind of going as first time nominees. And tonight is bittersweet, but more sweet than bitter.”
