Florida Georgia Line’s Influences Run The Gamut
Florida Georgia Line‘s music is as rooted in the past as anyone’s with influences that are familiar to just about everyone.
Who are those influences exactly? “Garth Brooks, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alabama, Alan Jackson,” Brian recalls from the country genre. “Even the Christian world [with] Shane & Shane – growing up we loved them. Lil Wayne, Eminem [were influences] in the hip hop world.”
A listen to the guys’ personal music libraries back then included a who’s who of artists from almost all music genres. “We both would make mix tapes where you’d have anything from Kenny Chesney to Lil Wayne to a Shane & Shane song or a Casting Crowns song. To us we’re just music lovers. [We’re] country to the core, but music’s always got to evolve or you’re going backwards.”
There’s no question FGL’s influences facilitated their own stardom, and the accolades keep piling up. Look for the guys on the American Music Awards November 19th on ABC. They’re up for favorite Duo or Group – Country, and are slated to perform with pop star Bebe Rexha.
